$5,000 to $11,750

HVAC replacement cost for a full system has a typical figure of $7,750, within a sourced range of $5,000 to $11,750. The ranges on this page come from two sources, Angi and HomeGuide. This page covers replacing a whole heating and cooling system; the central air conditioner, furnace and heat pump guides cover single systems. Use the figure as a starting budget, not a quote.

By job scope

Each row combines one range from each of the two sources. HomeGuide's figures include installation; Angi does not clearly say whether its headline averages include labor. Angi's ductwork figure is before removal fees.

Assumptions

  • Installed base: Full system replacement, no size selected.
  • Average area level uses low-to-typical and typical-to-high midpoints as bounds, with the sourced typical unchanged.
  • No applicable extras included.
  • Extras are added in full, and sourced installed ranges are treated as not including them.
  • Labor rows are informational only and are not added to installed costs.

Where these numbers come from

The ranges come from two sources, Angi and HomeGuide. Their dates and scope notes are shown below. The checked date records when the dataset was reviewed, not a promise that prices are unchanged.

The low and high are the medians of the published bounds. For two sources, the median is the mean of the pair. Typical is the median of the source averages, or of the midpoints where no average is given. Derived figures round to twenty-five-dollar steps below a thousand dollars and fifty-dollar steps at or above it, with exact halves rounded up. The estimator selects its base bounds, adds applicable extras in full and rounds the final totals.
